Painting Trees

A sketchbook page filled with watercolour trees

Simple Watercolour Tree Sketches

This week I’ve been working in my sketchbook, painting trees. I’ve been practicing with range of shapes and colours that trees come in, and trying to get some nice effects. I’ve been working with a large paintbrush (for me!) to try and simplify the shapes and not get lost in detail.

Below, you’ll find some of the reference images I was working from if you want to try your own.

Reference Photos

Here are some reference photos for drawing and painting trees. Many of these were just snapped on my phone when I was out walking, so aren’t the best quality in terms of lighting etc. but hopefully they’ll give you some information for your paintings.

Downloads are for personal use only. Please do not re-post these photos or use them for any other purpose than creating your own art projects.

I look forward to seeing your interpretations of this project!

if you post your work on instagram, tag me @louracheldavis and I’ll see them, and share them in my stories!
