These two patterns can be found in the Lindisfarne Gospels, in small panels surrounded by intricate knotwork. In these two projects, I show how to draw the repeating tiles using pencil and ruler, then add blue and green watercolour to develop them as pattern pages in their own right.

Supplies

For this project I used:

  • Arches 7×10 cold pressed watercolour paper.
  • Winsor and Newton Professional Watercolour Paints in Indigo, Winsor Blue (Red).
  • Daniel Smith Watercolour Paints in Green Apatite Genuine and Pthalo Turquoise
  • QoR Watercolour Paint in Green Gold.
  • Pro Arte Prolene One Stroke Brush, 3/4 inch.
  • Pencil, Ruler and Eraser.
